Rolfing on Oprah: Congratulations!
On behalf of many like-minded people in the Feldenkrais Community, I would to congratulate Rolfer’s and Structural Integrationists around the world for their profession’s appearance on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” on April 11th, 2007.
I first heard about the Oprah appearance on the “structural evolution blog” which noted:
Check out John Martine on Oprah April 10th. Hopefully the world will get the wonderful work we are doing and how necessary it is that we become available to everyone.
A website, called “insidesi” also noted:
Structural Integration will be a topic on the Oprah Winfrey show on or around April 10. Jonathan Martine, a Rolfer, will be a guest on her show. This is an amazing opportunity for worldwide exposure to Structural Integation. “It’s not what we do that makes us Rolfers, it’s what we are.” Ida P. Rolf
Once again, congratulations! I know Ida Rolf as one of Moshe Feldenkrais’ close friends and used to think of her as one of his most famous students. However, I believe they each developed many of their “core” ideas separately, long before they met.
Many Feldenkrais Practitioners and Rolfers have been sharing with me stories of Moshe and Ida’s interactions. I will be posting as many as I can over the next few days.
I will also have several podcasts on the topic coming soon. Sign up for priority notification:
If you would like more information, check out the The Rolf Insititute of Structural Integration or the Guild for Structural Integration. The Feldenkrais Guild of North America has a couple of paragraphs about Moshe Feldenkrais and Ida Rolf.

Comments on Rolfing on Oprah: Congratulations!
Ryan - Thanks for passing on this news. It is great news for anyone in the somatic education field to make it to Oprah! What a joy that there might be more focus on the development the person through the body.
I’ve written a little bit about what I have been able to find out about Ida Rolf and Moshe Feldenkrais. Check it out at:

Structures like to be Integrated. Functions like to be Integrated.
People like to be integrated.
Perhaps,
as you are helping to do,
Rolfing and Feldenkrais
can achieve some sort of cross fertilization
and integration.
I’ve written a simple
and beginning exploration of
the structural vs. the functional way of going about
learning new ways of being.
It’s at:

I am excited to see that the network of bodyworkers is so well connected. I was filmed over a month ago for the Oprah show. I filled in at the last minute when Dr. Oz’s (Oprah’s Dr.) Rolfer became ill. I am the faculty chair at the RI. Anyhow, the show is on this week on Thursday the 26th. When have been bumped a number of times by more pressing current events.
Don’t expect to learn much from the show. It was SHORT and they had it pretty scripted; even though they did not stick to the rehearsed questions.I did get to do a demo on the Doc and Oprah said it looked great and that she wanted to try it.That iin itself is huge!
Let me know if there is a Feldenkrais web site(s) that I should post on my site(I just put a site up last night and can add to it). We are expecting many contacts and inquiries.
Keep up the great work…Jonathan Martine (j.martine@comcast.net)
