Podcast #16: Feldenkrais Method Conference: Katrin Smithback, Diana Razumny

Today we have Feldenkrais Trainers, Katrin Smithback and Diana Razumny who are Program Committee members (Katrin is the Chairperson) for the next Feldenkrais (FGNA) conference to be held in Boulder Colorado from July 25th to August 1st, 2008.

The whole Program Committee “thing” has been a bit of a mystery to me, so I asked Diana and Katrin to enlighten us about the process of planning a conference and who decides who is on the committee.

In this year’s conference (as in year’s past), there has been a big push to have more workshops for the public. This is both for the sake of the growing the Method AND for practitioners who want examples and models of workshops that can be taught to the public.

This year’s conference has more public workshops than any other conference has ever had, including workshops for skiers, fly fishers (!), yoga and pilates students, workshops on Gurdjieff, Mable Todd and on many other topics.

Diana and Katrin also speak about this year’s keynote Speaker, Joan Borysenko, Ph.D who wrote the book, Minding the Body, Mending the Mind (Bantam New Age Books).

We also speak briefly about the research forum and research colloquium, a topic that I hope to take up in greater detail in a later podcast - possibly with Jim Stephens, Pat Buchanan and Roger Russell.
